97X--BAM! The Future of Rock & Roll....

WOXY is gone. I'm pretty much devastated, since it was the only radio station I've ever heard on the airwaves worth listening to day in and day out. For the five years I lived in Oxford, OH, it was THE source of music information, and while the internet proliferates that kind of thing these days, WOXY was the place I went to where, in just one day's worth of listening, I could get a sampling of all that is hip and happening right now, plus injections of stuff I hadn't heard in ten years.

I'd love some recommendations, if you've got 'em, for live radio streams you're particularly fond of.

Oh, that is sad. :(

I listen to this sometimes - it's not as good as WOXY (which I found through you), but it's pretty decent.

This station has a lot of variety, but they often play music similar to what you would hear on WOXY. It is broadcast out of Milwaukee, by (I think) the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

I sent you an e-mail (too long to post) that "might" be a letter from the president of MU regarding WOXY's demise. I was a sophmore at Miami in 1981 when the station opened. It was an amazing thing to be stuck in the middle of cornfields in the midwest but hearing cutting edge music from all over. We take it for granted today but trust me, back then it was a big deal. We'd often call the station late at night and request 3 or 4 songs in a row which they would gladly play all of.

My parents still live a few miles away from Oxford and everytime I went back I would dutifully tune to 97.7.

A sad day . .

My wife and I listened to WOXY for probably the last 4 years, 24x7 over the Internet and were very depressed when it went off the air. Ironically the day after they stopped broadcasting I went to Cincinnati for a job interview. I thought we would be able to listen to it in our car finally but we were too late. Life sucks right now musically. If you find anything comparable please post it.

try KEXP.org out of Seattle. It has long been my fave station!! Or WFMU in New York maybe? Try 'em and let me know what y'all think.

RadioNova from Paris is very cool especially middle of the night Paris-time. I once heard them follow the Rolling Stones 10,000 Light Years from Home w/ a Stereolab song. And, it made absolute sense. www.novaplanet.com

I'm also fond of KCRW the NPR station in Santa Monica. Morning Becomes Eclectic from 9-noon west coast time is sort of their flagship program. I really like Chocolate City and Metropolis too. www.kcrw.com
